Whole Bean
Swiss Water Decaf is a chemical-free decaffeination process that removes the caffeine from coffee beans while preserving much of the coffee's original flavor.
Here's how it works:
- Green coffee beans are soaked in hot water, which dissolves caffeine and flavor compounds.
- The beans are removed, and the water passes through a carbon filter that captures only the caffeine.
- The resulting liquid, called Green Coffee Extract (GCE), still contains all the coffee's flavor compounds but no caffeine.
- New batches of green coffee are soaked in the GCE. Because the water is already saturated with flavor compounds, only the caffeine diffuses out of the beans.
- The process repeats until the desired caffeine level is reached.
